My passion for tinkering still burns today, and there's nothing I'd rather do when I'm not on the water than work on today's high technology reels.
Today's fishing tackle truely is hi tech. It is also, for the most part, very good and reliable stuff if properly maintained. If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it is that proper maintenance and proper USE will give you optimum performance and service life from your equipment. Most parts failures in today's tackle are not the fault of the manufacturer, but rather, are due to misuse. Common examples of misuse are things like using higher drag settings than recommended for a spinning reel that is loaded with a braided superline of a much higher test than recommended for the reel, but that is of similar diameter to the recommended line; forcing the handle and reeling against the drag on a big fish with light tackle (never turn the handle if it's hard to turn), dunking the reel in salt water, and yes, failure to perform routine cleaning and lubrication.
I offer complete service and repairs for most of the major brands of tackle, and you can be sure that your favorite reels will be handled with great tender love and care. Manufacturer's lubricants will be used whenever possible. If your reel is sent for repair, and I find that the cost of repairs are more than the reel is worth, I will contact you before proceeding and spending your hard earned money. There are cases when it really is better to buy a new one.
Tackle is inexpensive to insure and ship. So, next time your favorite reel needs attention, give it the attention it deserves with BarHopp'R quality service from Capt. Butch. You'll be glad you did.
