Let's Play Jacks

Pound for pound, jack crevelle are the most powerful fighters in inshore waters. They don't jump, and they're generally not considered good on the table, but they will turn their wide sides to you and circle the boat, daring you to pull them in. Jack can be found year-round, but the jacks of fall and winter can be quite large, and can make long, blistering, drag screaming runs when first hooked. First-timers are routinely amazed at the size of the fight compared to the size of the fish.

Jacks will hit almost any kind of bait, live or artificial. Often jacks school and move onto a flat to feed, pushing wakes and blasting baits as they forage. When you happen upon a school of feeding jacks, they will devour anything you throw into their path. It's ironic that jacks get little or no respect from local anglers, because they are formidable opponents on light tackle.
