KAYAK FISHING

Yes, the Yak is back at BarHopp'R. I am now offering guided or unguided kayak fishing trips, and sight-seeing trips into the backcountry of Sanibel and Captiva Islands, Pine Island, Estero Bay, Charlotte Harbor, Sarasota Bay, and south Tampa Bay. This is the perfect way to get up close and personal to redfish and snook tailing in mere inches of water.

I have noticed that I see more and more people kayaking our waters than ever before. However, they are usually in waters close to the marina where the kayaks were rented or launched. This is understandable since rowing to the seclusion of the backcountry may mean paddling for miles, then back again.

Now you can enjoy kayak fishing or sightseeing in the true backcountry that you wouldn't see even from a typical flats boat. The solution is outfitting each kayak with a trolling motor, which facilitates getting the kayaks and their anglers greater distances and to the ultimate destination quickly, easily, and tirelessly. You'll still have energy for the rest of the day! You will also love the trolling motor if your health would restrict you from paddling a kayak very far, or at all.

The BarHopp'R kayak fleet currently consists of two Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 13 ft. Angler kayaks (sand) and two Freedom Hawk Freedom 12 ft. Angler Kayaks (olive). The Ocean Kayaks are of course 13 ft. 6 in. long, and have a beam of 29 inches. Empty hull weight is 60 pounds, and the weight capacity is 425 to 475 pounds! The Freedom Hawks are 12 ft. 3 in. long (hull 9 ft., outriggers 45 in.), and have a beam of 31 inches. Hull weight is 69 pounds, and maximum weight capacity is stated at 275 pounds.

Each kayak is a sit-on-top (SOT) single seat vessel. Each boat can be equipped with either a Motorguide® VariMAX™ Great White® Digital Saltwater Hand - Control, Transom Mount Trolling Motor, or a Minn Kota Riptide RT45 Transom-mount Saltwater 12V Trolling Motor, that mount to an Island Hopper kayak mount, and is powered with a Group 24 12V battery stored in the kayak. There is a small extra charge for the trolling motor setups (see rates page). Accessories on board include light kayak PFD's, anchors and/or 5 ft. 6 in. stakeout poles, whistles, high-back seat, foot rests, built-in rod holders, tackleboxes, optional trolling motors, leaning post, and at least two rods/reels.

Both kayaks are extremely stable, and although the Freedom Hawk is designed for stand-up fishing, the Ocean Kayaks can also accomodate stand-up anglers unless you have balance issues. If you are an angler of advanced age who is missing the fun of fishing the flats because you have a hard time keeping your balance in conventional kayaks and skiffs, fear not, the Freedom Hawk is extremely stable, and perfect for you. You will be very comfortable fishing from this platform.

If you love to kayak fish or wade fish, you owe it to yourself to try fishing our waters from one of my kayaks. If you've not been kayaking before, don't worry, these kayaks are stable and easy to handle and perfect for beginners as well as experienced kayakers. And before we hit the water, I will give you instruction on paddling and safety.

So, check out the rates and then book your kayak trip on the BarHopp'R kayaks today. It will be a great new adventure.
