The angler of the month award is usually given to the angler(s) who land the most fish for the size of their party, ie. 2 anglers who land 30 fish have a factor of 15, whereas, 2 anglers who land 20 fish have a factor of 10. I also give weight to the kind of fish, as the difficulty factor gets harder as you move from trout to reds to snook.
Having said all that, this month's award is given Bob and Christine Zickus for guts, spirit, and desire.
When we met at the ramp in Sarasota on March 2nd, I thought surely they would cancel. Sarasota Bay looked like someone had dropped a trainload of Tide detergent in it, or maybe like it was covered with snow! It was nasty!! I think Bob was ready to cancel, but Christine was rarin' to go, and said if she could catch just one fish, she'd be happy.
We went! I never figured we had a chance at catching anything with a 30 knot north wind blowing, but by the time we called it quits, Bob and Christine had caught a large whiting, a trout, a flounder, and a couple of pompano.
The best part of the trip was that I made some wonderful friends for life. I also have an invite to go to Chicago and do some real "Windy City" fishing.
