I am in the final phases of standing up a kayak fishing fleet. I will continue to offer trips in the Talon for the foreseeable future, but the emphasis is going to be on kayak fishing, which has become very popular since I had my kayak fleet back in the 90's.
The truth of the matter is that in this economic environment, especially since the killer blow struck by the BP spill, it is impossible to make a living in the fishing guide business as we have known it in the past. There's more on this on the home page. A full time guide just can't survive on a trip or two a week, or sometimes less.
I don't want to make a career change at this stage of life, and I don't want to retire and do nothing. I want to be on the water guiding, doing what I love, and I believe kayak fishing is the way to do it. It has grown very popular in the last decade and is now accepted as one of the best ways to chase shallow water fish. And, a kayak trip will be about half the cost of a trip in the Talon.
I have completely redone the website to focus on kayak fishing. Don't panic over the absence of references to the Talon. I may add some pages back later, but right now it's about getting the website ready for kayak fishing. I hope you will take a few minutes to surf the homepage, and follow each of the links on it to the related pages. As you do you will see that I will be offering trips from Estero Bay to southern Tampa Bay. There is so much beautiful water in between that I used to love to fish, that I am excited to go and fish again and explore via kayaks.
I ask that you, all of my friends and customers stay with me and be willing to give kayak fishing a try, and forget any preconceived notions you may have about it. It's a blast. You can even stand up and fish from some kayaks, now. You know how hard those snook and redfish pull when you're on the deck of the Talon. Wait until you hook into those fish in a kayak! What a hoot.
I invite you all to come and share a kayak fishing adventure in the waters of your choice, or mine, on your next visit to southwest Florida. I'll be there to guide you, and instruct you, but you will be the Captain of your own boat.
I'm looking forward to seeing you on your next visit.
