There will be no fishing report this week. Right now, talking about who caught what doesn't seem at all important in light of this past week's monumental tragedy.
The past week will live forever in the memories of the people of our great country, and perhaps the world. The terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the foiled attack that ended in a crash outside of Pittsburgh, is the most despicable act of cowardice ever perpetrated against the citizens of our country by the most unspeakable of bastards, monsters, and beasts. We cannot let them win!
In the six days that have passed since last Tuesday's horrors, many wheels have been set into motion, many plans hatched, most of which will touch our lives for the foreseeable future. We have seen politicians from all parties, people of all faiths, people from all walks of life, people from all corners of this country unite in outrage over the unspeakable acts of barbarism visited upon thousands upon thousands of innocent men, women, children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends, and associates for no other reason than they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The sleeping giant has once again been awakened.
For the past few days we have all looked at this as an attack on our innocent people. But, there is a much bigger picture that we must all see. This terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, on the Pentagon, is in fact a series of attacks that are in place, and could take our country down like a board of dominoes. Yes, it is also an attack on our freedoms, on our economy, on our markets, on our very way of life. These are battles that the terrorists could yet win, if we let them. We cannot. We must go on with our daily lives with the same mettle, same unity of purpose, and determination that we have mustered in our initial outrage to the evil that has been perpetrated upon us.
What do I mean, exactly? I mean that we must, in spite of the fears we may have in our hearts, go on with our daily lives as we have always done as Americans. We must continue with out daily pursuit of life, liberty, freedom, and the American Dream. We cannot allow fear to pull us into our shells like snails. We must continue to fly, in work and pleasure pursuits, we must continue to play and take our vacations, do our travels, spend our money on ourselves. We must continue to invest in our markets, and continue to save for our futures. We must go on our picnics, our camping trips, our hunting trips, our fishing trips, our movie nights out, our restaurant nights out, in spite of our fears and unrest. But, we need to make one big change to the way we play. We should resolve to travel, vacation, sightsee, hunt, fish, and camp in this great and beautiful land of ours, instead of spending our money abroad right now. This is one of the most beautiful and magnificent lands on the face of the earth, and I'd dare say most Americans have never seen more than a fraction of it.
If we do not get back to living our lives as usual we are in great jeopardy of seeing our whole economic system, indeed, our way of life collapse. Six days into this tragedy, we already have the airline industry reeling in bankruptcies and massive layoffs. If we as a country quit living and playing as only Americans can, we will see not only airlines going out of business, but motels, hotels, restaurants, fast food chains, banks, investment firms, chain stores, outfitters, hunting guides, fishing guides, bait shops, tackle shops; you name it!
Yes, I am a professional fishing guide, and I am looking at the big picture from that perspective. I am looking at you, the reader, as my customer and friend past, current, or future, and hope to cause you to understand that if you want to be able to travel to your favorite fishing destination and fish with your favorite fishing guide in the future, whoever and wherever he is, you must continue to do so now. If you as the vacationing, fishing public withdraw in fear, you will see the loss of untold numbers of motels, hotels, restaurants, tackle stores, boat dealers, and fishing guides as a result. Our slow economy already has our industry in a bad slump. I recently heard of one local guide losing his boat to repossession, and know others that are on the brink. We cannot allow the terrorists to win the battle on the economic front any more than we can sit still and allow their heinous crimes against our innocent citizens to go unpunished.
If we bring these terrorists to swift justice, if we go on with our lives, yes mourning and honoring our dead, but living life as they would have us live, free from fear of these human fecal matter, laughing in the face of these goons, then we will win all the other battles that are set to be fought, and the dominoes will continue to stand tall, as will we.
I have posted 12 new thumbnailed pictures on the Talon Page of this website, for those interested in seeing how one of these jewels goes together. I'm hopeful that completion date will be about a week from this writing.
