Fishing Report for Week Ending 1/26/97

This week brought with it lots of bad weather. I had several cancellations and only got to run one trip. My victim was Carl Pearse, a super-nice guy I'd taken out a couple of years before on Sarasota Bay. This was his first time to fish with a guide on the Sound. Along on the trip were his brother Steve and friend Bill.
Our day was warm, with a high that would reach 82, but the wind was blowing out of the south at 20 to 25 knots, feeding an approaching cold front. Bait was easy. We chummed up plenty of shiners on a flat near the Sanibel Causeway, and were ready to go fishing. We had a -0.3' low tide at 9:20 AM, that was perfect for pothole fishing, so that's we did.
The wind was fierce, and gave the guys lots of line problems, but they managed to have a pretty good day. They caught over 30 nice trout, plus 2 snook, and a flounder. They lost 2 other flounder at the boat. Although they didn't catch any reds, we did see lots of them. Seems they had lockjaw. The trio kept 8 big trout, 2 snook, and a flounder.
Carl, Steve, and Bill, were in top form that day. They joked, drank, and fished, and had a hell of a good time, and they kept me laughing most of the day. They're sailors, and sailors know how to have fun.
There won't be a report for the week ending February 2nd. It was another tough weather week, and I took it off. But, the following week was great, and we got in lots of good fishing. Check out the report for the week ending February 9th.
