Fishing Report for Week Ending 3/1/97

This week the summer temperatures in the mid 80's continued to lure the snook out on the flats. My old friends Louis and Phyliss Dolen, from Harrisonville, MO, who I guide around this time every year, were here for two days of snook fishing. Lou has a trophy room full of mounts back home, and was looking to add a snook to the collection.
Lou wasn't disappointed! The first day out the Dolens got 3 redfish, 9 snook to 10 pounds, 25 trout to 23", and 4 flounder. Lou decided to mount the beautiful 10 pound snook. He also loves to eat fish, and they kept 11 trout and 4 flounder.
Lou and Phyliss were at the ramp early the next morning ready to go again. Of all the people I know and have guided, Lou has to be right at the top of the list of finattic fishermen. This guy loves to fish. And Phyliss is a darned good angler, too. Well, the Dolens had another pretty good day with a catch of 1 redfish, 9 snook, including an 8 1/4 and a 6.5 pounder, 10 trout to 23", a 16" flounder, and 2 jack crevalle. They kept 2 nice snook and 6 trout.
It was sure good to see Lou and Phyliss again. They're not only avid fishermen, but they're lots of fun to be with.
The week ended on a low with my old friend Lee Dugger in from Virginia. We had engine trouble, which appeared to be fuel starvation. After replacing fuel filters and fuel lines with no change, we finally found a bad backflow valve at the fuel tank with the help of one of the employees at Economy Tackle. The weekend was a loss for Lee's fishing, but we had a good visit.
