A Tale of Bonito and King Mackeral Fishing

from

Jim Bach

WELL , IHAD NO TROUBLE ACCESSING SOME OF YOUR SITES, BUT HAVEN'T CHECKED THEM ALL OUT YET...BUT HAD TO TELL YOU ABOUT MY TRIP ON THURSDAY.

I WENT OUT OF JUPITER INLET WITH TWO OF MY FRIENDS... HE JUST GOT A 21' CC. THE BAIT WAS SCATTERED, AND MY CHUM WAS HOME IN THE GARAGE..... SO, WE PULLED OUT THE SABIKI RIGS AND CAUGHT ABOUT 80 - 100 SARDINES AND CIGAR MINNOWS... THEN IT WAS OFF TO THE 100' DEPTH JUST SOUTH OF JUPITER.

WELL, IT TOOK JUST ABOUT 5 SECONDS FOR THE FIRST BAIT TO GET NAILED DRIFTING IT FREELINED.... BONITOS WERE EVERYWHERE, EVERY BAIT THAT HIT THE WATER GOT EATEN IN JUST SECONDS !!!! THEN WE DECIDED TO MOVE AND MAKE ANOTHER DRIFT... WELL, THIS DRIFT THE BITE SLOWED A LITTLE !! IT TOOK ALMOST 15 SECONDS TO GET THE FIRST BITE, BUT NOW WE HAD FOUND THE KINGS ... SO, A HOUR AND A HALF AFTER STARTING WE HAD OUR LIMIT ON KINGS.... THEY RANGED FROM 10- 18 POUNDS... SO, THEN WE JUST CAUGHT AND RELEASED AFTER THAT. WE HAD CAUGHT PROBABLY 25-30 BONITO'S AND 8 KINGS, AND MY FRIEND CAUGHT A NICE MUTTON SNAPPER OF ABOUT 15 POUNDS... HE WASN'T EVEN FISHING ON THE BOTTOM. BUT, A GUT HOOKED SARDINE DOES TEND TO SWIM DOWN.

WE COULD HAVE FILLED THE BOAT WITH BONITO'S .... ALTHOUGH I DID HAVE ONE BONITO CUT IN HALF AT THE BOAT BY A 4 1/2 ' CUDA !!! IT WAS AN EXCITING DAY ON THE WATER .. OH, AND LET ME TELL YOU, WHEN YOUR FISHING FOR KINGS NEVER PUT YOUR THUMB ON THE SPOOL WHEN THE BAIT STARTS TO GET NERVOUS.... THAT FIRST RUN IS A HOT ONE !!!!! WE DID GET TO SEE TWO SKY ROCKETING KINGS. WHEN THEY COME UP FROM UNDER THE BAIT!! WHAT EXCITE MENT...

SIGHT SEEING WAS GOOD TOO.. WE SAW A BABY SEA TURTLE JUST SWIMMING AROUND IN 300' OF WATER, SEVERAL PORPOISE, AND SOME HUGE JACK CREVELLE THAT NAILED OUR DEAD BAITS THAT WE CHUMMED !!! THERE WAS A NICE RIP AND WEED LINE AT 320' BUT WE TROLLED BAITS FOR 2 HOURS AND GOT NOTHING !!!!

WELL TIGHT LINES IT WAS
