HI BUTCH,
I wanted to thank you for a great trip on Friday. Of course, I wanted to catch lots of snook and reds, but above and beyond that, I wanted to learn as much as possible. From what you said, I don't think Friday's fishing was nearly as good as Thursday's. Yet, my dad and Corey agreed that we had seen more reds and snook action by 11:00 AM than we ever had. And of course, I learned as much as I had hoped to.
On Sunday, I put my lesson to the test. I used the chum you use and bait came fast and easy off of Chino. I headed to the "spot" but there wasn't enough water yet to get to it. I decided to fish the deeper water by the bushes while we waited for the tide to come up a bit. Well, we started catching fish right away (and we were just killing time until the water came in a little more.) By the time the action slowed under the bushes, two of us caught 20 snook and 5 or 6 reds. Of course, we couldn't leave the the feeding frenzy, but I was still drawn to fish where we had on Friday. When I realized the time (noon), we had to head in for my Dad's birthday party, but I had to stop at the hole at least for 15 min. I cast out 2 lines and then started to get some chum ready. I barely had time to sit down next to the live well before my rod doubled over. I caught 3 more snook in those 15 minutes, all on my lightest rod with the lightest line that casts the farthest. Just like you said, "He who casts the farthest will catch the most fish."
Thanks again,
Shawn.
