Saltwater Fishing in Europe is a funny thing ,mostly cold ,cloudy ,rainy and a ruff North Sea. We are from Belgium, and the way that we fish over here are very different from the Florida ones, even a fishing guide,is something that we not know in Belgium. Sure, you can rent a charter boat, he brings you to wrecks ...or at least that is what he should do! Maybe you will be 10 miles away of it, because most people that rent such a boat with capt., have no clue where they are going, once you do not see the coast anymore..most people are lost in that ocean !If you tip the Capt. enough than probally he will bring you to a good fishing place.. finally you are never sure ...
With Butch its a bit different, you meet at the ramp, he welcomes you with a cup of coffee in his hand, starts slowly his well cleaned boat and than he will try to catch some bait. In Europe we will have to buy expensif worms, and those are mostly eating by the crabs before they touch the ground!
Than, you may (must) chum, thats how he calls it, he put his finger in the water and taste it to know if there is bait around or not (he things we believe that!) and he trows his net. Than he gives you a Disney attraction on the water with his fast surfboard (Talon), shows you how to hook your bait, how to use the rod, etc. and mostly you catch some fish too! He even takes a pictire from you with your fish, when you are ugly or have a crazy look (thats why he took no picture from me) and he puts you on the internet ...for free !!
Enough jokes here, Butch. On September 19 we had a tuff fishing day, only 4 trouts and 1 snook...and a few hotdogs at the Waterfront. But hey ..you did at least what you could, changed several times from spot to spot..even went in the water to push your boat (gaz saving!).. but it was just a red tide huricane Rita day, nothing to do about! Be sure i will be back next year, even without fish i will not mis a day with you on the water.
Take care, and keep in mind what i learned you....so that at least other customers have a good day too!!
Krgds from overseas,
Willy Vandervorst
